Indiana Legal Services, Inc. (ILS) is a not-for-profit law firm and the largest provider of free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income people in Indiana. ILS helps clients who are faced with legal problems that harm their ability to obtain basic needs such as food, shelter, income, medical care or personal safety. ILS also handles cases in other areas including family law where there is domestic violence, housing, consumer law, access to health care, and access to government benefits. ILS does not handle any criminal matters.

The goal of Indy Legal Aid has remained constant: to provide consultation, education, advice, and representation across a wide range of legal issues, most frequently in the areas of housing, guardianship, adoption, and family law. Indy Legal Aid provides legal assistance that benefits the most vulnerable members of the Central Indiana community: the elderly and persons with a physical and/or mental disability, children and their caretakers, and low-income individuals who otherwise would not receive legal help.

We are nonprofit, nonpartisan, and dedicated to defending and protecting the individual rights and personal freedoms of all. Here in Indiana, the ACLU was established in 1953 as the Indiana Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Indiana adopted its current name in 2006.
